Five Senses Tuition

Five Senses has been providing one-to-one tuition to students for 48 years. We believe that there is no substitute for one-to-one tuition because lessons can be tailored to the individual needs of our students – and because learning is enhanced in a non-threatening and caring environment.

We cater for all levels of students – students who are struggling to those who are at the top of their year and want to excel even further.

We select our teachers and tutors on the basis of their experience and expertise and their ability to relate well to students.

Five Senses offers one-to-one lessons in most school subjects and at all levels from Kindergarten to HSC.

It is normal for primary age children to be assessed prior to commencing lessons. The assessment establishes the child’s current level of performance in reading, spelling, comprehension and mathematics, and identifies any deficiencies which may have caused learning problems. The assessment is also used to select an appropriate teacher and learning program for the student’s needs.

• Three quarter hour lesson $58.00
• One hour lesson $74.00

Lesson fees are payable by the term and are due before or on the day of the first lesson.

The Five Senses Preschool programme provides school readiness groups for Preschoolers age 3.5 to 6 years.

The children are taught in small groups of three to six children, assisting them to develop the skills necessary for a positive and successful start to school. 

Our program includes a wide variety of activities concentrating on the following areas of development:

• Language – listening and communication skills including comprehension and following instructions;
• Social – co-operative behaviour (turn taking and sharing) including the positive interaction with their peers;
• Fine Motor – correct pencil grip, cutting and handwriting;
• Pre literacy and numeracy – letters, sounds, pre-reading, numbers, shapes and measurements.

We provide Preschoolers with a structured learning environment where their individual needs are supported and they are encouraged to be effective class members, working independently and confidently. This approach makes their transition to school as easy as possible.

Our qualified teachers have extensive experience in school readiness and are able to provide feedback to you on you child’s progress and readiness for school. This valuable input will assist you when making the decision about when to start your child at school.

Classes are one hour in duration and cost $35.00 per week.

They are run Monday to Saturday during the school terms.

Fees are paid on a term basis and are due on booking.

Kindergarten Reading Rockets includes:

• activities and games to support sight word recognition
• using phonic skills to decode words
• recognising “word families” and blends
• building and writing sentences.

Year 1 Reading Stars includes moving on with:

• reading including blends
• more difficult word families and spelling
• literature studies to develop comprehension and vocabulary

Years 1–9 Writing Groups cover:

• Grammar
• Punctuation
• Creative writing techniques
• Generating ideas
• Proofreading
• Extending sentences
• Paragraphing
• Better vocabulary
• Text types

Classes are one hour in duration and cost $35.00 per week.
