Gamilaraay, Yuwaalaraay guwaaldanha ngiyani — We are speaking Gamilaraay & Yuwaalaraay
Yaama — Hello
This book and the accompanying CD are an easy way to learn 100 words of the Gamilaraa and Yuwaalaraay languages. These two languages are from the inland river area of northern New South Wales. Gamilaraay and Yuwaalaraay people are making sure their languages survive: they are relearning them from tapes, their community elders and from written material.
This publication has come from the work of those involved with language revival in the Walgett area. One hundred common and useful words are listed with a guide to pronunciation, and an explanation of the sound and spelling system. Words are sorted into separate sections on body parts, people and animals.
By using the book and CD together, you and your children will learn Gamilaraay and Yuwaalaraay words in an easy and fun way.
