Schools in the Greater Sydney region are halting face-to-face teaching amid the coronavirus outbreak. With the extension of lockdown into the school term, parents have the opportunity to closely be involved with, and celebrate, their child's schooling.
Let's look at how we can celebrate the next week or two.
One of the best aspects of students learning from home is that it makes school education visible. This is an opportunity to see how teachers and schools structure your child's learning experiences. This opportunity may help you to appreciate how your child learns best, what is age appropriate learning from a school perspective, and the patterns of communication between teachers and students.
How you embrace the change will role model to your child(ren) the resilience you seek to see in them.
Provide structure, ensure there is quiet and also times of play. Remember to shorten the day and lower your academic expectations because nothing matters so much as creating and building lasting connections at a time of discontinuity.
